Briefing

Contexto

We have a series of three contests coming for Samsung about how we will use screens in the future. All contests will be launched in November and last two weeks. Each of the contest is on a different consumer need and we ask you to envision how we use existing or new/emerging technologies to make screens and the experience that they deliver useful to address the need. We hope you like them!

Being in control is important for consumers of all ages. Instead of being totally automated, the most successful smart devices are ones that let people have control over their activities.

Active and passive controls matter: people wish for the ability to choose which stage of involvement they’re at and to switch between control levels on a continuous basis.

People want control so much that they desire to manage not only the present, but also the future. They are looking for tools to exert control over the present and the future.

Millennials particularly, and other age groups in general, expect devices to be at their service. You can now talk to your speaker and command it to write down a to-do list or give you the weather forecast. This new set of tools, powered by emerging technologies, revolutionizes the way we interact with objects.

“On-demand” service also becomes a huge trend. In the past, to listen to a band’s music, you had to buy their CDs first. Today, you “access” their music. Though not having the record at hand, their music is accessible on-demand. Feeling like listening to a track at this very moment? Simply visit your favorite streaming platform and listen to the song! As simple as that! Downtime will never be the same again with incredible contents at your fingertips.

Being in control also means having services fit into your schedule, not the other way around. Take online shopping and home delivery, for example. Someone orders a pair of sneakers online and wants them to be delivered tomorrow, to her office. Instead of the company, now the user gets to decide when the product will be delivered! Shortened delivery time, tap-of-a-button deliveries, and instant gratification: on-demand services are constructing a world where patience is no longer a virtue.

What you need to focus in this contest are: being able to easily control your life and get what you want when you want it (either information, entertainment, new product, or new experience).

Being visibly in control is now a powerful aspiration, as consumers desire to showcase their success in making the most out of every opportunity in their personal and professional lives. Of course, screens and smartphones, principally, increase control over one’s life.

Technology also initiates recent needs for an optimized life based on locations. Consumers are more attracted to devices/apps that suggest interesting things to do in their area. They also look for location-based options and communications. Making the most of the immediate environment becomes increasingly important.

Samsung wants your support to envision how screens in the future help people exercise control over their lives, embrace opportunities, and make the most of them.

Desafio Criativo

We have a series of three contests coming for Samsung about how we will use screens in the future. All contests will be launched in November and last two weeks. Each of the contest is on a different consumer need and we ask you to envision how we use existing or new/emerging technologies to make screens and the experience that they deliver useful to address the need. We hope you like them!

Imagine new ways that screens in future can help people be more in control and make the most of their life and embrace opportunities.

Tell us ideal stories and scenarios in which people benefit from more control screens give them.

Keep in mind what are the consumer’s needs:

  • Having control of my life and my schedule
  • Embrace opportunities and make the most of my life
  • Optimize down time
  • Be able to get the content you want when you want, personalized to your needs
  • Easy to check facts and info in an objective way
  • Access to what you want any time of the day
  • Able to optimize living based on location and immediate environment e.g. new options, promotions, communications.

We’re not asking you to invent new devices nor new technologies.

We’re asking you to tell us stories of people being in control of their life through screens, using existing devices and emerging technologies.

You should start with existing screens: TVs primarily and tablets, phones, Gear VR, and imagine how these screens can help people have a better control of their life.

Also, in the scenario you write, you can use emerging technologies such as Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual reality & Augmented Reality. (look at the guidelines for details about these emerging technologies)

You shall create an entry that tells us about the full experience of the user.

Your entry should be quite detailed and illustrated with supporting pictures.

Please address the following points:

  1. Who would this idea be suited for?
  2. How does your experience help the user control and get the most out of his/her life?  Think about access to different content, services, experiences whenever and wherever. Show us, step by step how the screen are used, in which context and which occasion.
  3. Tell us which screens are important and what is their role?
  4. Is the big screen/TV important? What is the role of the big screen
  5. Tell us what role the screen/hardware plays and what role the software plays
  6. Does the emergent technology e.g. AI/AR/VR/IOT play a role and in what way?
  7. What are the feelings, sensations and benefits of the user?
  8. How are they accessing and controlling content and information so that it’s relevant to their needs and their immediate environment.

To encourage and stretch thinking to new experiences/occasions:

Think about usage scenarios in home or out of home (on the go/at work).

Think about different types of consumers e.g. techy early adopters vs not so techy; older vs. younger; families/single; health conscious vs non; style/design focused vs. not; creative vs. functional and any other different types of consumers you can think of.

Dicas

Os exemplos são fornecidos apenas para ilustrar as nossas expectativas. Favor não usá-los em sua apresentação ou ela será rejeitada.

Here are some questions that can help you start ideating:

  • how can screens give access to the content I want, when I want?
  • how can screens help me check facts and get objective information?
  • how can screens help me have 24/7 access to what I want?
  • How can screens help me be more in control of my life? How can screens help me organize my life?
  • How can screens help me embrace opportunities and make the most of my life?

Orientações

Orientações para esse concurso

  • Entries should be in English.
  • You can look at Samsung existing products here: http://www.samsung.com/uk/home/
  • We will not accept new hardware ideas.
  • Here is additional information about emerging technologies:
    • Artificial intelligence: machines mimicking how the human brain works to help in doing complex tasks and chores. Chats bots, Siri, drones, self-driving cars, disease diagnosis are artificial intelligence uses. It can also involve talking to your devices through voice control e.g. Amazon Echo
    • Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality: a way to immerse a user into a totally new experience. Augmented Reality “augments” reality by adding elements through a screen. Virtual Reality is a totally immersive experience, using a headset. With VR you can for instance be at the front row of live events, while sitting in your living room.
    • Internet of things: it’s when physical devices in the house are connected to one another to collect and exchange data. It helps the user manage things (temperature, alarm etc.) in the house or be able to share and access content easily around the house. It also involves machines being more responsive e.g. prompting you if it needs a repair or if you can improve the experience.
